Veolia Institute & The Future Society: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics

On February 27, 2018, the Veolia Institute organized, in partnership with The Future Society, a conference on the theme of artificial intelligence and robotics, following the publication of a FACTS Reports on this theme (read the full report here: http://www.thefuturesociety.org/research/). The promises of artificial intelligence and robotics are immense, as are the threats they pose to society. On the one hand, rising incomes, improving the quality of life, new jobs are all arguments to push for its development. On the other hand, mass unemployment, attacks on the privacy of individuals, discrimination and loss of control by the public authorities call for caution. The speakers exchanged on these opportunities and threats and proposed ways to take advantage of this new technological revolution.

On the occasion of this conference debate, the Veolia Institute has involved:

  • Nicolas Miailhe, Co-Founder and President of The Future Society;
  • Mathieu Saujot, Coordinator of the Linking Digital and Ecological Transition Initiative, IDDRI;
  • Claire Falzone, Managing Director, Nova Veolia;
  • Julien Hendrickx, Professor at the Polytechnic School of Leuven.
